‘Because … Ma Mansha the snake goddess is full of anger and hate. I will use my
weapons to hunt down and kill all those who have hurt me so much.’
I came to this shelter when I was 16. When I was a young girl, my mother married me to an older man. He had another wife, his sister-in-law. I think she did black magic on him, because he ignored me and wouldn’t eat my food. He beat me. Finally he disappeared and I returned to my parents’ house. My uncle promised me a job, then sold me. I was rescued and I’ve been here for 4 years, waiting for my uncle to be convicted in court. Now what can I do? I can’t go back to that man. I can’t go home. There is no place to go.
